Hill Country Carols
Christmas carols have been sung as community celebrations of Christ’s birth for centuries. People have come together to sing carols in churches, in public places, in homes, and by going door to door. Hill Country Carols is the second annual event organized by local churches to bring heartwarming songs of Christmas to the Bulverde/Spring Branch community.
Date and Location
This year’s gatherings will be held on December 10th, 2022 from 5:00-6:00 PM at the HEB in Bulverde. Anyone is welcome to show up and join in the singing. Free song books will be available to take home. Afterwards we will be going caroling at the Highlander Senior Village at 6:30 to the residence there. We hope you make it!
Keeping Christ in Christmas
Songs about sleigh rides or stockings hung by the fire often warm our hearts and remind us of the importance of slowing down and spending some quality time with the ones we love during this season. Yet, many of the classic carols are wonderful reminders of the true meaning of Christmas. They are songs about Christ.
Who is the Christ of Christmas?
The title “Christ” is synonymous with ancient prophecies from God about sending a Messiah, a Savior, who would come to earth and save people from their sins and reunite them with their Creator. He would be born in the lineage of the famous king David of Israel and be the rightful heir to the throne. His kingdom was promised to be an everlasting kingdom and His rule marked by joy, peace, and righteousness. In order to save us, God sent His only Son to be miraculously conceived by the virgin Mary and born as baby in Bethlehem. He lived His life without sin and as an adult spent three years teaching multitudes about His kingdom, He healed the sick, He raised dead people back to life, and worked many other miracles. But the most important miracle He accomplished was the fulfillment of His prophecy of His own death on a cross, followed by three days in a tomb, and then raised from the dead on the third day. His death was a sacrifice for our sins and His resurrection the ultimate proof of His true identity and our promised salvation.
Have You Found the Promised Peace with God?
Jesus taught, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6. Jesus taught us how to find peace with God when He said in John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” From the very beginning of His public ministry, Jesus not only taught the importance of believing in Him and His gospel but also the need to repent. “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15.
Too often, people view repentance as a negative subject but it is actually to most positive message for us to consider. “Repent” means to turn around, to change our direction and our mind. In this context, Jesus called us to stop turning our backs on God and living for ourselves but to turn our face towards Him and come to Him through faith in the Christ – His Son, Jesus. You can find peace with God today by turning to Him.
Romans 10:9-13 “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES ON HIM WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.”
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The “Gospel” means “good news”. We hope you receive the gift of salvation and peace with God through Jesus Christ this season. If you would like to talk with someone about faith in Christ or if you have any questions about Christianity, please contact us here.
Merry Christmas and may you experience the Peace of Christ in your heart all year.

The Narrative of the Nativity
The Narrative of the Nativity
The following are excerpts from the Bible about the birth of Jesus (Scripture taken from the New King James Version®. Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc. Used by permission. All rights reserved.)
Matthew 1:18-25 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD, AND BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,” which is translated, “God with us.” Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.
Luke 1:26-38
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
Luke 2:1-20
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
Matthew 2:1-12
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: ‘BUT YOU, BETHLEHEM, IN THE LAND OF JUDAH, ARE NOT THE LEAST AMONG THE RULERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME A RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.’ ” Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.” When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way.

The Prophecies about Christ
The Prophecies about Christ
The miraculous story of Jesus the Christ began long before His birth in Bethlehem. Did you know that there were hundreds of prophecies about His birth, His life, His death, and His resurrection? These prophesies spanned thousands of years before the newborn babe, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger, was announced by angels to humble shepherds, watching over their flocks on that historic night.
The probability of one person being able to fulfill just eight of those prophecies was calculated and the results are astonishing. Better yet, the great state of Texas was required as part of an illustration. The follow excerpts are from the book “Evidence that Demands a Verdict” by Josh McDowell pgs. 193-194 He cites Peter Stoner’s work in Science Speaks to show that coincidence is ruled out by the science of probability.
Stoner says that by applying the modern science of probability to just these eight prophecies, “… We find that the chance that any man might have lived down to the present time and fulfilled all eight prophecies is 1 in 1017.” That would be one in 1 quadrillion.
in order for us to be able to comprehend this staggering probability, Stoner illustrates it by supposing that:
“… we take 1017 silver dollars and lay them on the face of Texas. They will cover all of the state two feet deep. Now mark one of these silver dollars and stir the whole mass thoroughly, all over the state. Blindfold a man and tell him that he can travel as far as he wishes, but he must pick up one silver dollar and say that this is the right one. What chance would he have of getting the right one? Just the same chance that the prophets would have had of writing these eight prophecies and having them all come true in any one man, from their day to the present time, providing they wrote in their own wisdom.
“Now these prophecies were either given by inspiration of God or the prophets just wrote them as they thought they should be. In such a case the prophets had just one chance in 1017 of having them come true in any man, but they all came true in Christ.
“This means that the fulfillment of these eight prophecies alone proves that God inspired the writing of those [eight] prophecies to a definiteness which lacks only one chance in 1017 of being absolute.” [Stoner, Peter W. Science Speaks. Chicago: Moody Press, 1963, pp 100-107.]
Stoner considers 48 prophecies and says, “… We find the chance that any one man fulfilled all 48 prophecies to be 1 in 10157.
“With that introduction, let us go back to our chance of 1 in 10157. Let us suppose that we are taking this number of electrons, marking one, and thoroughly stirring it into the whole mass, then blindfolding a man and letting him try to find the right one. What chance has he of finding the right one? What kind of a pile will this number of electrons make? They make an inconceivably large volume.” [ibid., pp 109,110]
The chances of finding the correct electron out of the pile of electrons that Stoner uses for this last illustration is something on the order of picking one single correct electron out of all of the electrons in all the known mass of the entire known universe. Such is the chance of any one man fulfilling any 48 prophecies. Yet Jesus fulfilled not just 48 prophecies, not just 61 prophecies, but more than 324 individual prophecies that the Prophets wrote concerning the Messiah.
Merry Christmas and may you experience the Peace of Christ in your heart all year.
